Museum Late-Nights in New York City
Although most people are familiar with New York City’s many fabulous museums, few are aware of the special evening events that many of these world-class art venues offer. Museum late-nights are fun, vibrant evenings centered around culture, art, and conversation.
We've compiled a list if our favorite after-hours museum events that are worth checking out.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Each Friday and Saturday, The Metropolitan Museum of Art keeps its doors open until 9 pm for evening festivities. You’ll have the opportunity to listen to live music, grab a drink, or simply explore the museum.
The Met Breuer
The Met Breuer is open until 9 pm on Thursday and Friday evenings. After the daytime crowds have dispersed, visitors can enjoy a peaceful exploration of the wonderful modern and contemporary pieces housed in this branch of The Met.
The Guggenheim Museum
During the summer, the Guggenheim Museum hosts a series of Summer Tuesdays. During these nights the museum stays open until 9 pm, allowing visitors to enjoy open galleries, chat with others over craft cocktails, meet important artists and museum curators, and watch films delving into particular pieces in the museum’s impressive collection.
The Whitney Museum is open until 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, so visitors can drop by after work and explore it’s fantastic modern and contemporary collection. The museum’s American-style restaurant, Untitled, also stays open to accommodate any hungry, late-night museum-goers.
The vibrant, interactive Cooper Hewitt Museum keeps its doors open until 9 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. On Thursday nights the museum entertains visitors from 6 - 9 pm with live music, dancing, and specialty drinks. On Saturdays the Cooper Hewitt’s lovely outdoor garden also stays open late, and from 6 – 9 pm the museum employs a pay-what-you-wish admission policy.
Rubin Museum of Art
This cultural gem, located in the dynamic Chelsea neighborhood, stays open on Fridays until 10 pm. Guests can discover and incredible collection that connects modern society to the most rural areas in India. And from 6 – 10 pm the museum’s café transforms into the K2 Lounge, complete with a special menu and a live DJ.
